WELCOME
	The aim of this website is to provide information on the proposed wind farm development at Horowhenua in New Zealand. You will also find general wind energy information freely available in the faqs andlinks to other wind energy related sites. We hope you find this new website informative, useful and easy to navigate.
PRESENTATION
	This potential site was identified in late 2003. Landowner arrangements for the potential development of a wind farm were concluded in August 2004. A 20 meter mast with anemometers was errected in November 2004. Approval is being sought from the Horowhenua District Council for an 80 meter mast and anemometers to be added in due course. The proposed site is in prefeasibility phase and its viability amongst other things is dependent on: an assessment of the wind speed over the next 9-12 months to confirm initial wind speed predictions; success with a tender for a pre-allocation of Emission Reduction Units from the NZ Government's Project Mechanisms Tender currently underway; a connection agreement with local distribution network supplier - Electra- to connect the wind farms output in the 21 to 30 MW range.
BACKGROUND
	Wind Farm Developments Ltd is a special purpose company formed to develop, project manage, commission and operate utility scale wind farm developments in New Zealand and Australia. This site is controlled by a wholly owned subsidary of Wind Farm Developments Ltd - Horowhenua Energy Ltd.
